Identity✨

Identity

Prompt: In Invisible Man, Ellison depicts a narrator trying to find himself outside of everyone else's expectations of him. He moves through several senses of identity until he finally realizes that he needs to be his own man. Have you ever experienced feeling as if you are unsure of who you are in light of what others expect you to be? If so, explain. As you prepare to leave for college next year, how do you feel this change might affect your sense of identity? What expectations are placed upon you? What expectations do you have for yourself?

Response:

I am glad to say that I have never been confused about my own identity, since no one have expected much on my destiny. I usually treat those expectation placed on my shoulder as just simple bogus content, though it could be more real than the genuine sometimes. I believe myself as my only belief so that no one else could make use of my weakness. Till this point of my life, I feel I am always on the right and twisted path toward the light from the beacon of happy endings.

As I am leaving for college next year, I believe it will be another delightful beginning of new chapters in my life. May because of I have ignored most, no expectation has been placed on me except the ones made by myself. Even though my lust and laziness did no good on making any hope but this lovely world gives me all the reasons to continue live a wonderful life. In order to appreciate her, I would walk through what ever obstructs my way and marry my dear world.

  1. Nice reflection, Bill. It's great that you really have your own expectations to keep in mind, although competing with yourself can be just as intimidating as trying to live up to someone else's expectations.
